4 Conclusions. To efficiently recover Sc from ion-adsorption REEs concentrate, the extraction behavior and mechanism of HEHEHP in sulfonated kerosene as extractant towards Sc were firstly studied. An excellent extraction selectivity towards Sc over other REEs in 0.1−4 mol/L HCl solution is observed.
Bauxite residue (BR) is an inevitable industrial waste generated through the classic Bayer extraction of alumina from bauxite minerals. It contains relatively significant amount of valuable rare earth elements, including scandium, and therefore, we explored the suitability of trace scandium recovery from BR acid leachate by titanium phosphate (TiP) ion …
The recovery of scandium from a synthetic leach solution of the red mud using solvent extraction was studied. A number of extractants were investigated for the extraction of scandium and its separation from the other metals in the synthetic leach solution. It was found that amongst the three acidic organophosphorus extractants …

Rare earth elements (REEs) and Sc are concentrated in aluminum production byproducts. The novel REEs recovery approach, which involves leaching with acid at a pH > 3 in the presence of MgSO4, results in the formation of a pregnant leach solution (PLS) with a low concentration of iron (Fe) and titanium (Ti) and a large number …
The Nyngan scandium resource is located in NSW, Australia approximately 500 kilometers northwest of Sydney. Minerals exploration at the site has defined a measured and indicated resource significantly …
This paper comprehensively reviews the metallurgical processes to recover scandium from various sources. Residues, tailings and waste liquors in the production …

1. Introduction. Scandium (Sc) is a rare earth element 1 widely used in various fields 2, 3, such as high-performance aluminum alloys, new light sources and solid fuel cells.Scandium and other rare earth are severely restricted as a critical resource in most countries, such as the United States, Europe and Brazil. 4, 5 For technologically …
As we know, P204 shows better selectivity and higher loading capacity for scandium from other elements, resulting in the difficulty of stripping. Compared with P204, Cyanex 272 has weaker extraction ability for scandium because of lower pKa value (6.37), which indicating of lower stripping acidity.

Assessing the Efficiency of Ion Exchange Resins for the Recovery of Scandium from Sulfuric Acid Leaching Solutions. Scandium, a valuable element with restricted production sources mainly situated in China and Russia, is typically obtained as a by-product during the production of various materials. As the demand….
The scandium in the filtrate after the recovery of titanium can be finely extracted with P507, and 99.79% scandium can be extracted by single-stage extraction under the P507 concentration of 15% ...
Scandium represents 90–95% of the economic value of the REE present in red mud . Borra et al. studied the alumina and iron recovery by alkali roasting and smelting process, and a leaching process to recover REEs . The goal of this work was to study the recovery of scandium from Brazilian red mud (BRM) by leaching process.
Recovery of scandium from various sources: a critical review of the state of the art and future prospects | Semantic Scholar. DOI: 10.1016/J.MINENG.2021.107148. …
Besides that, researchers also studied to recovery scandium from silicate minerals with a combination process of activated roasting-hydrometallurgy (Wang et al., 2011). NaKCO 3, NaHCO 3, CaCl 2 and NaOH have been successfully applied in pretreatment as activation reagent. Due to multiple options of harmless activation …
In this work, we investigated the recovery of scandium from real leachates of Greek bauxite residue. In the separation of scandium from the other elements, the biggest challenge arose from the chemical similarities between scandium(III) and iron(III). This hampers high selectivity for scandium, especially because iron, as one of the major ...
At present, acidic wastewater is directly neutralized with lime or limestone, which wastes resources such as titanium, scandium, and iron and generates a great deal of solid waste. This study proposes a novel approach for the separation and recovery of titanium, scandium, and iron from acidic wastewater and red gypsum utilization. The …
One of the main applications of scandium is its alloying into aluminum and magnesium products, to make them weldable, more corrosion resistant, and stronger (Ahmad, 2003).One of the main interests of Al-Sc alloys is in the aerospace industry because the capacity to make use of weldable structures could significantly reduce the …
This study focused on separation and recovery of scandium from chloride solution using the new synthesized ion exchange resin. The resin containing glycol amic acid groups shows the possibility to recover scandium from chloride aqueous solutions. At pH 1, the adsorption selectivity of scandium can be obtained among the others metals. The …
The current world supply is small at 15-20 tonnes per year and is largely serviced by scandium by-product recovery from production of other metals. In recent years, an increase in demand for ...
Bauxite residues, i.e., red mud, can be processed to recover various valuable end products, while reducing the environmental impact of the waste. Scandium is one of the valuable elements in bauxite residues. It is possible to extract and enrich scandium from red mud by leaching and solvent extraction. Scandium can then be …
Red mud is a slimy caustic residue generated from alumina production. Taking into account the relatively considerable content and availability of scandium, red mud can be viewed as an important and promising scandium resource rather than a solid waste.
